Carrefour Chooses Corebiz to Scale its Digital Strategy

Carrefour escolhe a Corebiz para escalar sua estratégia digital

In partnership with Corebiz, Carrefour optimizes performance and accelerates e-commerce sales. With a complete restructuring of the checkout system across its digital channels, the multinational saw an increase in conversion rates and greater user engagement with the store card.

About Carrefour

Present in over 30 countries with around 12,000 stores, Carrefour Group Brazil is the largest food retail group in the country.

With a broad operational ecosystem, the company’s business spans various formats, from wholesale to retail, focusing on a wide audience. Carrefour Hyper, Carrefour Neighborhood, Carrefour Market, and Carrefour Express are among the brand’s main online market fronts.

The Challenge

With growing demand in its digital channel, Carrefour identified the need to improve aspects of its website that were harming the user experience, with the goal of optimizing performance and digital sales.

The retailer sought a partner with expertise in VTEX and JamStack, the technologies currently used in its e-commerce, who could manage the project quickly and efficiently, delivering ideal solutions for the existing challenges.

Carrefour found confidence in Corebiz to execute this project, forming a partnership that, for over seven months, has delivered positive results for both parties.

The Solution

As the largest VTEX partner in the world, with extensive experience in JamStack, Corebiz leverages these platforms in numerous projects outside Brazil, a key factor that influenced Carrefour’s decision to partner with us.

When we began the partnership in August 2021, we quickly allocated a dedicated team to work in a structured and agile manner to address the client’s most pressing issues. A carefully selected team was assigned, equipped with the ideal characteristics to meet the expectations and demands of such a complex scenario.

We kicked off with several improvements and implementations on Carrefour’s website. One major delivery was the restructuring of the checkout process for both shopping and food. By reorganizing the workflow, we increased the quality and speed of deliveries, while reducing the complexity of developing customizations in jQuery.

Additionally, we developed several features that optimized the user journey and positively impacted conversion rates in Carrefour’s food and shopping e-commerce, such as delivery slots, upfront price display, CPF validation at checkout and login, virtual Carrefour card, and a complete refactoring of the shopping and food sections.

Learn more about each implemented feature below.

Delivery Slots

This customization streamlines the customer journey at checkout. In the native application, the user has to open a calendar to select a day and time, but with this “delivery slots” customization, we reduced the scheduling process to just one click, offering greater convenience to the end customer.

Upfront Price Display

This feature allows the order summary to display both the product price and its upfront payment price, positioned just below. This information is visible at all stages of the checkout process, helping customers analyze the payment option that best suits them.

CPF Validation at Checkout and Login

This functionality locks the CPF field, preventing the creation of accounts with an already registered CPF by querying the VTEX database.

Virtual Carrefour Card

We developed a complete flow for acquiring and using the virtual Carrefour card within the e-commerce site. This includes adding a customized payment method with the retailer’s specific rules and preferences.

Complete Refactoring of Shopping and Food to Allow Customizations Based on React Components

We implemented a structure for compiling checkout files that allows the injection of React, optimizing the development process and the speed of loading customizations.

“Above all, I’ve seen that you’re always attentive, seeing everything that happens, and you always respond quickly.” – Adriano Cavalcanti, Service Squad Manager at Carrefour

Corebiz’s technical expertise in JamStack was crucial in solving the technological challenges of Carrefour’s platform, ensuring excellent performance as the project progressed. This made the partnership strategic for both sides. Check out the results below.

The Results

After seven months of working with Carrefour, we have advanced several aspects of the brand’s digital channel, improving performance and conversion in almost all areas.

Regarding food products, the conversion rate increased from 1.34% to 2.57% between January 2021 and January 2022 (excluding November, which naturally experiences higher sales due to Black Friday). The same happened with the conversion rate for shopping—other products sold on the brand’s e-commerce site—where the rate improved from 0.87% to 1.02% during the same period.

Our know-how, work methodology, and availability were highly recognized by the client, reflected in a top score in our most recent NPS evaluation.

“It’s a strategic partnership for Corebiz. We’ve delivered important results to Carrefour consistently.” — Felipe Macedo, co-CEO and Fouder at Corebiz

Currently, there are three different dedicated squads, with a team of eight full-stack developers working on Carrefour’s shopping and food e-commerce in the Activation, Services, and Conversion Squads.

The transparent relationship with Carrefour has been essential for quickly solving problems. Collaboratively, we’ve developed solutions that add value both to the business and to the end customer of Brazil’s largest food retailer.
